New Features of Version 26.3

SEMA CAD

  • With the latest release, the photorealistic representation in the SEMA programme has been completely revised – with noticeable improvements in speed and display quality. The new technology enables a significantly faster calculation of the photorealistic view, so you get from the model to a high-quality visualisation more quickly. After the calculation, the 3D model can now be rotated freely and viewed from different perspectives – a function that was not previously available. The 3D model is continuously recalculated using state-of-the-art technology, making the representation more detailed and more realistic step by step. Experience your design faster, more flexibly and more realistically than ever – with the new photorealistic representation in the SEMA programme.

  • With the new option "Export rabbet without rounding as a notch" in the machine settings, which is enabled by default, a square rabbet defined with a corner radius of 0 mm and without marking-out is transferred as a separate scarf joint processing during BVX export. In Cambium, this can be produced using a scarf joint strategy without any rework. (*)

  • Support for IFC 4.3 for import and export is now available. This allows current BIM standards to be used and data to be exchanged between different systems even more precisely. This improves the interoperability and future-proofing of projects.

  • During BVX export, MCAD processings created in SEMA (e.g. texts and contours) can now be controlled via the MCAD parameter P30. This makes it possible to specify whether a processing is only visualised in Cambium or actually produced. (*)

    • P30 = 1$B1 → The processing (e.g. contour) is not executed and serves for visualisation only.
    • P30 = 0$B1 → The processing is executed.

  • With this update, the positioning of 3D objects when moving and copying has been significantly extended and made more precise. Previously, there was no way to align components directly relative to a reference edge, which caused additional effort, especially for exact placements, and often required manual corrections. Users can now select a reference edge specifically via the right mouse button and position the desired component exactly from this edge. This makes the placement of 3D objects not only much more precise, but also noticeably faster and more intuitive. The new function considerably improves the workflow and makes it easier to align components exactly, especially in complex constructions. Overall, users benefit from greater accuracy, a more efficient way of working and more convenient operation.

  • The BVX export for wall shapes has been extended with the option to store additional project-specific information. When exporting to the Wallmaster, various parameters such as storey, ANO etc. can now be transferred directly using SEMA placeholders in the machine settings under General / Wall name. The corresponding information is displayed in Cambium in the "General parameters" area. (*)

  • With the new command for adjusting the roof pitch in the 3D view, pitch values of roof areas can now be entered directly or picked up via point heights. This targeted correction of uneven pitch values, e.g. for roof areas generated from point clouds, ensures practical values and a consistent roof design. (*)

  • With this update, editing layer structures in element components has been made considerably simpler and more efficient. Previously, it was necessary to completely delete existing layer links and then reassign them manually as soon as the structure of a layer structure had changed. This process was error-prone and time-consuming, especially for complex components with several links. Links can now be moved directly to a different layer number without having to delete them first. For example, an existing link such as "Layer link left 3" can be changed to "Layer link left 5" with just a few clicks. Right-clicking on the link provides the new functions "Move link up" and "Move link down". These two functions only move the link that is currently active. In addition, the functions "Move related links up" and "Move related links down" are also available in the first tab "Material" of the layer structure. With these two functions, the material, the type of covering, the layer nailing, the processing order and the processings in the MC tab are moved along automatically. The same function has also been made available in the MC tab – there, "Move related links" moves the entire row. The new function ensures a much smoother workflow and considerably reduces manual effort. It can be used in the layer structure for wall, floor, roof and roof-floor panels and can be applied directly in existing projects without any additional adjustments. The option to move links has not only been implemented for classic layer links, but is also available for links of 3D objects (Optics tab) and for electric combinations.

  • For performance reasons, drillings can be drawn as an alternative representation instead of using real CSG surfaces ("Draw drillings as axes", Alt-F7). The new display options make the view much clearer. In addition to the previous drilling cross at the start and end of the drilling, a filled, semi-transparent disc can now be displayed at each drill hole opening. The type of alternative representation can be selected directly via Alt-F7. (*)

  • With this release, editing in the staggered view has been fundamentally improved. Components and processings can now be edited and created directly in this view without having to switch to the original position. All changes are automatically based on the displayed, shifted geometry and are correctly transferred to the actual component position. The new, context-related editing makes it possible to adjust layers, boards, timbers, dimensioning and MCAD processings directly in the realistic installation situation. The final position of the components remains visible at all times throughout the entire editing process, ensuring precise alignment and direct visual control. This makes the workflow much more efficient, as the previously necessary switching between the staggered view and the original position is no longer required. At the same time, the susceptibility to errors is reduced, as changes no longer have to be made indirectly but are carried out directly in the relevant context. This leads to noticeable time savings and higher planning quality, especially for complex constructions and detailed designs. The previous editing options in the original position remain unchanged and are still fully compatible with existing projects. (*)

  • The export of the BTLx format 2.4 BETA has been integrated into the SEMA programme. BTLx is a modern, XML-based further development of the BTL format with particular emphasis on simplification. In addition, BTLx has been designed to allow the integration of future developments. For further information see: www.design2machine.com

With this update, the machine application of adhesive tape has been automated. The adhesive tape is now applied directly by the machine, eliminating manual work steps and making the process more efficient overall. The adhesive tape is positioned precisely and in accordance with defined specifications, for example at joints, butt joints and transitions. The adhesive tape line is defined via an MCAD contour (P04=9) in the processing order in the master data of the wall layer. This ensures consistently high execution quality and significantly reduces the risk of errors. Thanks to the automation, the throughput time per wall is noticeably and measurably reduced compared to the manual process. (*)

  • 3D objects are now displayed much more efficiently in 2D and in the sectional view. Instead of drawing the complete triangle edge mesh, SEMA now only determines the relevant outer edges of the object for display – the so-called silhouette. The result remains visually clean and correctly reproduces the outline of the object, while the amount of edges and data to be processed per object is significantly reduced. The difference is particularly noticeable with finely structured or high-resolution external objects. Performance benefits enormously even when working in the top view: views are built up faster and loading times are noticeably shorter. The gain is even more evident in plan and PDF output: since the reduced silhouette is carried over directly to plans, the data volume during PDF creation is significantly reduced. The original object is still always rendered – only the selection of the displayed edges is changed, not the object geometry itself. The silhouette representation can be switched on and off specifically. The corresponding options can be found in the display settings (F7) under 3CAD - 3D objects, 3D timber fastener and IFC link General as well as under Roof – Roof Window.

  • When creating dimension points, the last entry can now be undone via the lower input line (Alt+2). Incorrectly placed dimension points can thus be corrected without having to cancel the command.

  • The PDF export in SEMA has been fundamentally revised from a technical point of view. Output is now much faster, which is particularly noticeable with extensive plans containing many drawing elements. At the same time, the file size of the generated PDF files has been significantly reduced, which makes sending them by e-mail and storing them in project folders or cloud systems noticeably easier. The behaviour of the drawing order has also been revised and further improved: overlaps of hatchings, areas and lines are now displayed more reliably in the PDF as they appear on the screen. Due to the technical changeover, exporting PDF files with layers is not possible in this version; this function will be available again in one of the next versions.

  • The maximum number of macro containers has been increased from 6 to 15. This allows macros to be structured and exchanged even more flexibly.

  • The collision check in the Control Center has been extended to steel components and processings. The calculation is based on the exact geometry of the components. Component collisions steel/steel, steel/timber and timber/timber as well as processing collisions BEA/timber and BEA/steel are checked. Timber fasteners and 3D objects such as furniture, nails or joist hangers are not checked. The settings can be used to specify separately for component and processing collisions which checks are carried out. Depending on the project size, checks based on the exact geometry may require more computing time. In the Control Center, corrected and resolved collisions can be checked again using the familiar options. In the master data under Other, collisions of steel components and processings can be ignored and, for 3CAD processings, the check can be limited to the components that are defined via the selected effect. This allows planning errors in components and processings to be detected at an early stage and avoids expensive rework on the construction site. (*)

  • The DXF/DWG interface in SEMA has been revised and improved in several areas. The import in particular has been optimised with regard to object recognition: numerous objects that were previously not imported or not imported correctly are now read in reliably and displayed in accordance with the original drawing. External plans from other CAD systems can therefore be imported more completely.
